Blast from the past -- A helluva game

USC versus Clemson :
A helluva game

It started with these guys.
Our captains.

We were able to drive.
Jermale Kelly catches an early pass.

And is brought down.

Derek Watson also caught the ball.
On this drive, we came close, oh so close --
This TD catch was ruled out of bounds by the boys in stripes.
But we scored anyway.
In a later drive, Derek "Squeaky" Watson broke through.
Showed some nice separation.
And showed a little razzle dazzle that drew a flag for taunting.
Linebacker Kenny Harney didn't start but played throughout the game.
Lou Holtz was nervous and stalking the sidelines as he always does.

Brian Scott got mugged in the second quarter, in the end zone.

Senior defensive tackle/nose guard Cleveland Pinckney got the first interception of his career.

A defensive tackle brought down by a running back? For shame. Look at the players on the sideline, eager to get in.

And they start on their way.

We try to put the ball in the endzone in the third quarter.

But it doesn't happen.

We make a few strikes at the end zone in the fourth.
As Squeaky goes over the top, the ball pops out.

But tight end Thomas Hill recovers it for the TD that puts it up.

This is of course, where we all wanted the game to end. But 59 seconds hung on the clock after the extra point, and Clemson was able to drive.
I was in this end zone, and my camera lens wasn't long enough to let me follow Clemson's drive.
But that doesn't matter. I had my back to the play anyway. I wasn't celebrating, but I was taking down the names of some Gamecock fans from Greenville who were celebrating hard.
My words, about 25 seconds after this shot, when I heard the crowd go wild were, "You have GOT to be kidding."
They weren't kidding, but it was a joke.

Final score, Clemson 16, USC 14.
